Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety

Who hasn't felt on edge or stressed from time to time? Deadlines, obligations and situations often make one nervous or fearful. Mild anxiety can be helpful in facing challenges.
Whereas it can be slight and fleeting for some it can be debilitating with physical changes for others with symptoms of sweating, trembling, dizziness, rapid heartbeat.
When the frequency and intensity are overwhelming and interfere with daily functioning, we are experiencing anxiety disorders - panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobias, posttraumatic stress disorder, night terrors.
Young children can also experience these feelings or manifest them physically.
Fortunately, with psychological treatment, both mild and severe forms of anxiety can improve considerably.

Depression

Depression affects our thoughts and behaviors. Accompanied by sadness and loss of interest in everyday activities, it can also produce anxiety, irritability, guilt feelings, helplessness, worthlessness, and hopelessness. Eating and sleeping patterns are most often disturbed. Depression may be a reaction to life events, such as loss of a loved one, disappointment in personal or professional life, a symptom of physical ailments or a side effect of a medical treatment. It is also a feature of Major Depressive Disorder. Depression is highly treatable. Once diagnosed, Psychotherapy, sometimes combined with medication, can be very effective in finding vitality and well being once again.
