Group Therapies

Group therapies are therapies that involve several members and one or two therapists. It is sometimes useful to meet in a group rather than individually, to work on specific issues like social skills or social anxiety. Groups might also be helpful in meeting and sharing ideas with other people who suffer from the same difficulties. Groups can be very supportive, and can also provide challenges that are unavailable in individual work. Parent groups can help with behavior management problems. Styles of groups vary widely; some are open, allowing new members to join at any time, while others are closed and the same individuals work together for a set time period. The group can be very directive and behavioral, or more non directive and exploratory.
